We are featuring this week Leporellos, or Accordian Books. These are books, often ephemera items, in which panels fold out. The novel alternative format was often used in souvenirs, as it still is. Our earliest recollection of a leporello is a collection of postcards so assembled and picked up at a Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey circus held at the old Madison Square Garden in its last year before leveled by the wrecking ball. In any case, the leporello format lends itself to fun, frivolity, and pure visual delight. Usually the content is visual and light on text, and the pleasure of the format has made it particularly well-suited for such juvenilia as ABCs. Below, in Featured Items, is a selection of the many leporellos we currently have in stock. We hope you partake in the joy of these booklet offerings that we ourselves experience every time we come upon one.
In November we return to Boston for the Boston International Antiquarian Book Fair, to be held from Friday to Sunday, November 15th thru the 17th. This year we will be in Booth 328.

Late 19th century. Measures 2 by 2 by 1.25 inches, or 5 by 5 by 3 cm, and weighs 2.3 ounces. Loss of morocco along edges from wear. Some looseness of remaining leather from metal. Metal somewhat bent in a few spots. Still opens and closes as should and overall appearance is attractive and a convincing impostor. Extremely rare novelty.
