Also stately headpiece atop first dedication page, smaller decoration at beginning of each of three books and "La Biblioteca". Hybrid work of Italian belle lettres and literature which provides an early history of the Italian language, and an invaluable early summary of the important works of Italian literature up to that time. Fontanini in this included works from all parts of the Italian peninsula, and he a mixture of summary and/or analysis to the works singled out. This copy of this rare work is in fine condition. The contemporary (or near contemporary) vellum bindign has only light soilage. Four raised bands on spine, with brown title/author/date label in one panel in great shape. Tiny separation of les than 1/4 inch at top of rear joint. Pages remarkably clean and fresh, binding tight. Fine.
