Promotional and souvenir brochure for silent movie epic about the building of the transcontinental railroad! 4to. 30.5 by 23 cm. 20 pp., plus wraps. The movie starred George O'Brien and Madge Bellamy. The movie boasted a cast of thousands and overcame many logistical challenges in its making, which took three years. Two entire towns were built just for the film, for example. The movie marked Ford's first major success as a director. The brochure discusses the challenges in making the movie in addition to providing a synopsis and biographical information about the actors, Ford, and producer William Fox, a brief history of the laying of the railroad, a photo spread, and a celebration of Abraham Lincoln, who played an important role in getting the transcontinental railroad project started. Besides the photos, there is a wonderful two page color plate reproducing a watercolor of the movie climax, and both the front and rear cover have full-page color illustrations. Light wear.
