London Country Life, LTD 1925 First Edition Cloth Very Good
Folio. Book. lxiv + 375 pp. Profusely illustrated with black and white photos of grounds surrounding both great country seats as well as more bucolic thatched cottages. Like the other Country Life books authored by Tipping, this one captures a vanishing way of life, and there is a beauty and satisfaction to the black and white photos that can elude color photos. Above all else there is a meticulousness to the prose accompanying the photos that brings a rigor to the subject that is both accessible and yet raises this book from a trivil coffee table book. Gardening is treated not as a minor decorative art but as a glory of civilization, one of history and historical movement, and one deserving of serious contemplation. Minor soilage to green boards. Interior clean and tight. Overall at least very good in condition. The book is extra-heavy, weighing over seven pounds, and so extra shipping charges may have to be added, especially if shipped overseas.

London Offices of Country Life 1914 First Edition Decorated Cloth Good
Elephant Folio - over 15. Book. xi + 259 pp. Definitive work on the most famous woodcarver of all time with many sharp black and white photos. Copy is tight, and pages are generally clean, with last two pages of index, and two blank pages following, having cluster of what look like small ink spots in upper corners, not affecting text. Boards, attractively covered with paper to look like wood grain, have some minor shelfwear. upper 1.5 inch and upper right corner have somewhat blackened or soot like film, and some soilage evident on buckrum spine and board overlay. Rear board has loss the size of perhaps a quarter in upper corner where looks as if chewed out, and tiny chip on FEP of adjoining page. Still, overall a good copy.
