Folio, 15 by 11.5 inches. 3rd ed, with first published two years earlier. 24 pp. 65 brightly colored illustrations by the master Meggendorfer and epitomizing his deceptively naive style. The twelve stories are "Der Lange Hans", "Abentheuer des Kleinen Otto", "Die Muhle im Thal", "Vom dem Braven Schmied, und von der Sauberschussel", "Von Unfolgsamen Adolf", "Die Grosse Breze", "Die Rach Eines Maurers", "Das Wespennest", "Das Steckenpferd", Die Bestrafte Neugierige", Ferdinand und Laura". With an 1895 inscription. Text and brightly colored illustrations printed on heavy but brittle paper (almost of card thickness). Some brittle edges reinforced with archival tape by the hinge. New endpapers. Inner hinge resewn and strengthened. Flecks along rubbed edges. Otherwise, tight and clean copy of an especially scarce Meggendorfer. Not listed in Wegehaupt, "Alte Deutsche Kinderbucher".
