3 Thompson, Zadock History of Vermont, Natural, Civil and Statistical, In Three Parts, with a New Map of the State, and 200 Engravings
Burlington, VT Chauncey Goodrich 1842 Hardcover Very Good
Book. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. [4], 224, 224, 200, [4], 64 pp. With folding map of state in frontis and numerous woodcut illustrations throughout. Also containing the 1853 64 page appendix. Howes T-209. Split to front joint at both extremities. Boards holding well. Wear to full calf, and some dryness, but overall more attractive than one generally finds this work when still bound in contemporary calf. Front hinge was repaired with white band of cloth. Text lightly toned, generally clean, and text block is tight and sturdy. Map has two minor close tears along folds but is remarkably clean and attractive, especially given the tissue-like paper used for it. This is a very good if not slightly better copy.

4 Thompson, Zadock Journal of a Trip to London, Paris and the Great Exhibition of 1851
Burlington, VT Nichols & Warren 1852 1st Edition Hardcover Good
Book. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 144 pp. With frontis illustration of Crystal Palace. Presentation copy with "Token of Gratitude" written in gilt on front cover, is inscribed on second fly leaf, "Eli Chittenden Esq. with respects of Z. Thompson." Chittenden was prominent Vermonter, bearing one of the best known names in the state. In addition to a Yankee's impressions of the first true world exposition, this is a travelogue of England and France by well-known Vermont writer. Heavy toning of pages -- not exactly foxing, but soilage resulting mostly from the particular paper stock. Wear to spine extremities and elsewhere, albeit less so, to cloth binding. Tight binding. A good copy.
