Japanische Dramen: Terakoya and Asagao, Florenz, Karl, Translator (into German)
1 Florenz, Karl, Translator (into German) Japanische Dramen: Terakoya and Asagao
Leipzig and Tokyo, Respectively C. F. Amelangs Verlag; T. Hasegawa Very Good
Book. 8vo - over 7. 8 + 38 + [4] + 38 pp. With crepe paper, each leaf folded over, creating thick, fabric leaved book of unique loveliness. Circa 1910, 7000th ed., presenting two classical one act Japanese dramas in German translation. First is "Terakoya oder Die Dorfschule: Historisches Trauerspiel: In Einem Akt", followed by "Asagao. Ein Romantisches Schauspiel. In Einem Akt.". As with all the Hasagawa publications (known to me), text in accompanied by copious color illustrations, some full page, in traditional Japanese style, and it is these that will tweak most collectors. The upper right corner of the book has minor bumped crease, and a few other insignificant creases on some leaves (including final rear leaf). Fading to color of cover. Still a beautiful copy. Unique here is that it comes with the original box. The box is of the fold-over type. It has considerable wear but is fundamentally intact. Cloth covering cardboard on sides of lid has losses and fraying around the perimeter and is quite faded, although the floral design is still easily discernible.
