Fores' Correct Representation of The State Procession on the Occasion of the August Ceremony of her Majesty's Coronation, June 28th, 1838.
1 Fores' Correct Representation of The State Procession on the Occasion of the August Ceremony of her Majesty's Coronation, June 28th, 1838.
London Messrs. Fores (Fores' Sporting & Fine Print Repository and Frame Manufactory) 1838 First edition Half Calf, Marbled Boards, Cloth Insert Slipcase Good
A fabulous very long hand-colored leporello, or concertina, capturing the pomp and pageantry of the procession marking the coronation of Queen Victoria. In the age before photos, this souvenir impressively reproduced the entirety of the affair, or something very close to it, and it unquestionably served as a template for later such occasions. The leporello is 1720 by 11 cm, or over 700 inches long. It unfolds by opening from the center, with half to the left, half to the right. The leporello fits into a custom-made cloth slipcase, around which a half calf binder (with marbled boards) enfolds in a rather novel, attractive style of binding system. The outer panels on both sides are heavily soiled and foxed, as is the centerpiece, which lies on the inside of the spine. By the hinges there are abrasion losses, and the centerpiece has cracks running down vertically with trivial losses, and some minor blistering besides. Most of the panels have light soiling but are nonetheless quite bright and always attractive. The original outer casing and title is gone. Missing also is the title tab rendered in French on the left end of the leporello; the tab on the right side rendered in English is present. Happily, the entire leporello is backed with canvas to give it extra strength.

London Robins 1838 First edition Cloth, and housed in a Custom Quarter Morocco Box Very Good
A stunning leporello of early Victorian pageantry, colored by hand, measuring 10 feet by 3.5 inches when extended, and the imagery is particularly bright and fresh, especially when compared to other leporellos depicting Victorian parades or processions from this period. Scarce, with only four institutional copies located on OCLC. Abbey Life 534. When closed, the oblong item measures 6.25 by 4 inches, and in its box it sits neatly, and elegantly, on a shelf. Occasional light foxing or soiling to the pictorial but overall remarkably clean. The folds are reinforced with fabric. The folds are not entirely even, causing some minor waviness to the paper when the boards are shut. The joints of the cloth boards somewhat crudely restored. Minor blistering to the cloth. The leporello snugly fits inside the attractive box. Minor rubbing and wear to the marbled paper of the box.

3 Garde-Chambonas, Le Comte August Louis Charles de la; Hortense de Beauharnais. Hippolyte Prevost Album Artistique de la Reine Hortense. Livre D'Art de la Reine Hortense. Une Visite a Augsburg, Esquisse Biographique. Lettres, Dessins, et Musique
Paris Typographie Plon Freres, Heugel & Cie. Half Morocco Very Good Minus
Circa 1850 to1860. Oblong, 27.5 by 38 cm, or 10.5 by 15 inches. 23, [67] pp. Hortense was the step-daughter of Napoleon (she was the daughter of Josephine). She was married off to Napoleon's brother, Louis, who was made the king of Holland during the years 1806 to 1810. Significantly for this particular production, Hortense was the mother of Louis Napoleon, also known as Napoleon III, who at the time this opulent work was published, was the ruler of France, which thus explains the opulent commemoration of her here, as evident in the use of gold in its printing! Hortense was, in fact, of an artistic bent, and so contained herein are examples of her painting and musical compositions. There are six plates engraved by F. Sorrieu after paintings by Hortense and 24 pages of musical score by her (lyrics by the Comte de la Garde). Includes letters written by Hortense and a biography by Hippolyte Prevost. The gorgeous chromolithographs, seven in all, were done by Lemercier. Leather is rubbed and scuffed. Foxing, heavy in a few places, generally because of the card or paper.

The Queen Elizabeth Rose, Germain's Inc.
4 Germain's Inc. The Queen Elizabeth Rose
California (Gilroy?) Germain's, Inc. 1954 First Edition Velour on boards Fine
An unique and lovely promotional book produced by Germain's of California to commemorate both The Queen Elizabeth Rose, one of its many seed products at the time, and the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. One might say there was in this a fertile cross-fertilization among its horticultural business, anglophilism and royal worship that has some of its most ardent acolytes among the non-subject peoples of the former American colonies. Germain's certainly went all out with this portfolio, binding the celebratory book in a plush purple velour that sets off a jeweled crown piece mounted onto it. A silk ribbon tied on the bias in the lower corner conveys the title in an ornamental cursive. Within are several pretty color illustrations of the rose, one a full page plate, and useful information and fluff about roses, this variety of rose, the young queen, who never looked better than in the photos that fill two full pages. The book is a fine example of the soft sell prestige promotion, and it would seem the recipients of it would have saved it and prized it. In the preliminaries within a pared down royal emblem it is written "Book 61", which would suggest this was a limited run, and perhaps very limited run. The unpaginated book has 27 pages with text or illustrations, including the title, half-title,etc., and it has the dimensions of a proud coffee table book at 12 by 10 inches, or 31 by 26 cm. Minor corner wear to the velour.

The Coronation of his Sacred Majesty King George the Fourth solemnize in the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter Westminster upon the Nineteenth Day of July MDCCCXXI Published by his Majesty's Especial Command, Nayler, Sir George
5 Nayler, Sir George The Coronation of his Sacred Majesty King George the Fourth solemnize in the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter Westminster upon the Nineteenth Day of July MDCCCXXI Published by his Majesty's Especial Command
London Samuel and Richard Bentley First Edition Half Calf Very Good
Large folio, 22.5 by 16.5 inches, or 57 by 42 cm. 13 hand-colored plates, plus large hand-colored illustration on title to plate section of the book. This volume was followed by a separate volume commemorating the same event issued three years later (1827), and the these two volumes were later collected, along with yet another work (Whittaker's plates of the same event) into a single volume in 1837, See Tooley 343. Calf is heavily scuffed in corner triangles and a few other spots, and rubbed particularly along hinges, with abrasions on the spine and a few spots of crud. Minor margin soiling of a few plates. A number of short closed tears in the margins -- most have been repaired but traces of them still discernible. Generally the plates are bright and clean, and this remains a collection of magnificent, exciting plates.
