A gorgeous deep blue velvet binding with blindstamped ornamentation and gilt border ruling, and all edges gilt. Near miniature, 9 by 5.5 cm. 58 pp. Other than a tiny piece of gilt border missing on rear board, pristine. Silk moire endpapers. Stamped on blank "Printed in Soviet Union", which would have been done to evade export restrictions or to avert confiscation given that this was a traditional religious book that would have been disapproved by the atheistic Soviet rulers.

Hauntingly beautiful chromolithographic images by Ivan Biliban. 4to, measuring 32 by 26 cm, and 12 pp., featuring seven chromolithographs in addition to front cover and the rear cover vignette. Two of the chromos within are full page. In addition, there is the chromo decorative borders, very much a part of the integral whole. This work is part of a series of indigenous fairy tales the Russian government commissioned Bilibin to illustrate. To do so Bilibin paid meticulous care to actual traditional costume, architecture and decor. The work cemented Bilibin's renown, which was also built on stage design. The front cover is lightly soiled. Minor flake loss along the joint. Still a lovely copy.

This work is part of a series of indigenous fairy tales the Russian government commissioned Bilibin to illustrate. To do so Bilibin paid meticulous care to actual traditional costume, architecture and decor. The work cemented Bilibin's renown, which was also built on stage design. The front cover is soiled and toned in the margins, and then within there is some scattered soiling.

Oblong, 4to, measuring 32 by 26 cm, and 20 pp., featuring ten chromolithographs in addition to front cover, title and the rear cover vignette. Five of the chromos within are full page. In addition, there is the chromo decorative borders, very much a part of the integral whole. This work is part of a series of indigenous fairy tales the Russian government commissioned Bilibin to illustrate. To do so Bilibin paid meticulous care to actual traditional costume, architecture and decor. The work cemented Bilibin's renown, which was also built on stage design. WIth original loose glassine tissue guards intact. Light wear along outer joint fold, with small chip loss by one of the staples. A touch of soiling along gilt edge of front cover, and scattered more generally on rear cover. Otherwise, a clean, bright copy!

4to. 30 by 22.5 cm. 24 pp. Depicting Soviet children at various kinds of work and mature activities (architect, doctor, builder, crane operator, postman, driverg, sailor, pilot). Accompanied, and complemented, by verse of the great Soviet Futurist poet, Mayakovsky. Scarce, at least in West, with no copies located on OCLC FirstServe and also apparently not in Cotsen Collection at Princeton. Light wear to the wraps.
