Berlin Verlag Von Martin Oldenbourg 1907 First Edition Hardcover Good
Book. 4to - over 9. N.d. Circa 1907. Ambitious German survey on all the decorative arts and interior design from leading experts on the subject from the early twentieth century. Some emphasis on the business aspect, or the trade of, these various media. Profusely illustrated with full page plates, a good many in color, most photographs, some chromolithography, and many text illustrations and photographs. A great part of this survey's achievement is its synthesis of these disparate forms of the decorative arts, and it brings to everything a scholarly discipline that was still novel at the time of publication. Both volumes are tight internally and clean, with age toning to the pages. Decorated full vellum has some soilage and wear. Vol 1 has some starting at lower front board and perhaps a little shake.

The Life of George Morland, Dawe, George, with an Introduction and Notes By J. J. Foster
11 Dawe, George, with an Introduction and Notes By J. J. Foster The Life of George Morland
London Dickinsons 1904 First Edition Thus Hardcover Near Fine
Book. Folio - over 12. No. 87 of 175 of the Edition de Luxe printed on Japon Vellum paper, with 11 hand-colored plates, 51 other black and white plates. xxxiv + 196 pp. Morland was late eighteenth century artist revered especially for his treatment of pre-Industrial Age rural life, often of human subjects of modest means, and of animals, sometimes as the primary subject of his work but more often as part of the genre scene including people. His work came to be treasured for its nostalgic quality, as his subjects are typically of contented farmers, squires, lasses, maidens and wives at play or work, and it can seem that Morland was prescient in anticipating that this would soon be so. To most people his work is best known for its reproduction in prints, and this reflects his very accessibility while possibly compromising his critical reputation in the long-run. This book greatly expands upon a biography of Morland issued shortly after his death in 1804, and indeed was issued on the centennial of his death. The plates in the book, including the tinted ones as well as the color ones, are of frameable quality. This copy of the book is near fine. There is minor soilage on the half vellum and the green boards they overlay. The book is impeccably clean and tight.

Hill's Album of Biography and Art: Containing Portraits and Pen-Sketches of Many Persons Who Have Been and are Prominent as Religionists, Military Heroes, Inventors. . ., Hill, Thomas E.
14 Hill, Thomas E. Hill's Album of Biography and Art: Containing Portraits and Pen-Sketches of Many Persons Who Have Been and are Prominent as Religionists, Military Heroes, Inventors. . .
Chicago Hill Standard Book Company 1886 Hardcover Very Good
Book. 48mo - over 3. 587 pp + 6 pp pub ad. 8 full page chromolithographic plates, each 11 by 8.5 inches. Principal title of this book is somewhat misleading because it is much more of a single volume encyclopedia or atlas with substantial pieces on home decoration, farm animals (chickens, horses, etc.). Treats animal cruelty, which would mark it as a real pioneer. This is a substantial specimen of Victoriana and Americana, and one can dip into time and again with enjoyment. Leather of binding has considerable rubbing, esp. in corner tabs. Slight looseness to FFEP. Otherwise, tight and clean copy.

The Philip Lehman Collection New York: Painting, Lehman, Robert
19 Lehman, Robert The Philip Lehman Collection New York: Painting
Paris Calmann-Levy 1928 First Limited Edition Hardcover Near Fine
Book. Elephant Folio - over 15. No 215 of 300 limitation, this being, with copies numbered 201 to 300 the more exclusive, with prints on velin d'Arches and mould-made paper with Philip Lehman's watermark specially manufactured by the Papeteries d'Arches (Vosges) . 105 plates, each measuring 19 by 15 inches, or 49 by 38 cm, all on a very heavy stock of paper, and each accompanied by tissue guard and a separate text page. Text pages with name of painting and artist on one side, text explanation, bibliographical reference on other. This collection formed the core of the Robert Lehman Collection donated to the Metropolitan Museum in 1969, today housed in its own wing of the museum. Vellum spine over vellum-colored cloth (or what might be a thinner vellum pasted to board). Gilt marbled endpapers, resembling a cross-section of a slab of granite. Large fox marks on blank preliminary page and title page, as well as final blank page. A lot of such foxing on a few of the table of contents pages and one page introduction by Robert Lehman. Afterward only occasional foxing, but such fox marks as there are tend to be splotchy. Most pages clean or essentially clean -- light foxing in foreedges sometimes diffused into page edge. All plates are attractive, and tissue guards are all intact, a few with creases resulting undoubtedly from heaviness and subsequent unwieldiness of book. Foxing as described is only issue with this extravagant production of a book, and but for it, the book would be deemed in fine condition. Still near fine. The book weighs about 22 pounds and so extra postage will be necessary.
