Keerl-Thoma, Hedwig Tier Bilderbuch Mit Bildern und Versen
Stuttgart Loewes Verlag Ferdinand Carl First Edition presumed Paper pastedown on boards Very Good Minus
N.d., early 20th century. (There was a later version printed in 1945 in Zurich.) Title, followed by 18 color plates depicting various animals -- flamingos, an owl, mice, a stork, pelicans, monkeys, a parrot, a peacock, a squirrel, a turkey, rabbits, swans, hares, ducks, a cat, a dog, a snail. Accompanying each illustration is a rhymed couplet. The color of the plates is rich; the style, simple and winsome. The paper stock, alas, was acidic, and so the pages are brittle, with some cracking resulting, never affecting the pictorial images. A few discreet repairs with inconspicuous achival tape along hinge of a few of these leaves. Still a scarce, and delightful, title. The front cover has some minor loss to the paper pastedown, and the paper is somewhat soiled, rubbed, worn.
