Japanese Fusuma Sample Book
Linen on boards. Ribbon ties. Near Fine
Fusuma are Japanese screen papers, used to decorate screens traditionally used to partition rooms. N.d., mid-20th century. 35 by 30 cm. 29 samples, mostly abstract or semi-abstract, with touches throughout of a rich layered color, often red, but also silver, gold, green, black. Shapes include grasses, fruits, birds, trees, fish, fans, etc. Some of the papers have a textured look -- a light weave, a faint marbling, a splatter effect, etc. With Japanese captions on backs of sheets, and one page of introductory text. LIght to moderate wear of the fabric covered boards. The papers themselves are pristine.
