1 Four bound packets of foil samples of Aluminium Foils Ltd.
London Very Good
N.d., circa 1960. Each of the packets measures 21.5 by 16 cm and is bound on the upper edge. The packets are labeled "Plain -- Standard Embossing", "Cheese", "Butter & Margarine", and "Ice Cream". Obviously, the primary use for these foil varieties related to food packaging. The Plain packet has all kinds of textured foils, with no text written on any of them, while the other sample books use actual specimens in use by companies such as Kraft. Our dating is based on the inclusion of margarine, which may have been first invented in the 19th century but to our knowledge, wasn't heavily promoted until the mid-20th century, as well as the sense of the graphics.
