12mo. 15 by 10.5 cm. 68 pp. With four color plates, and many text illustrations, depicting various deformities, many in children. And many of the text pages each have two sidebar columns of illustrations in green and white, with five or six small vignette illustrations of various deformities in each of these columns, with numerous other illustrations scattered through the text in addition. The brochure is a screed against the neglect of the deformed, lame and paralyzed, followed by a detailed description of various conditions, their causes, their symptoms, treatments, past and present. The author goes into many conditions, though, that may not be really comparable to the many other grotesqueries he describes, such as big noses, big lips, and the like. So while the author may be well-meaning, he also conflates the truly debilitating conditions with the merely cosmetic ones, and with the latter, there may also be an expression of his racial and ethnic prejudices. The print in the pamphlet is tiny, and thus a lot of information is crammed into this brochure. Scarce -- only copy listed on OCLC First Search at Rochester. Condition: light wear.
