1 Japanese Flower Arrangements
Wraps Good Minus
Early version of what later became a popular souvenir. This copy is all original pen and watercolor on a very fine, tissue-like paper or fabric which tends naturally to adhere to the neighboring leaf. With 80 leaves, with illustrations (or occasionally text) on both sides of the leaves. The coloring is generally a little on the crude side, with heavy use of a pink, a purple and a green. A few of the illustrations stand out, such as one featuring a monkey, another with a horse on a scroll painting. With a few holes in the paper. Many pages with creases, especially at the beginning and end and in the corners. Almost all the color of the wraps is chipped off, and minor loss along the lower edge of material.

2 Japanese Sketchbook of Nature Paintings
Leporellos Very Good
N.d., circa 1900. 28.5 by 18 cm. Sixteen paintings, each measuring 28.5 by 36 cm, by an unknown hand. Paintings are of a flower vase, birds on branches, on a pipe or by the sea, a deer, pine cones, a cat, cranes, a woman having tea (perhaps), a tea kettle set among shoots of flowers, a butterfly above a stream, flower petals, foliage and insects. The paintings are done with bold, sure strokes. The paint is sometimes quite palpable. The style is simple, direct, economical. The paintings can each stand alone, but there is a cumulative impact from the album. Soiling and wear to the cover. About one third of the album remains blank and unused. The paintings themselves are clean.

Amsterdam Chez Paul Marret 1726 Second edition Full Calf Very Good
8vo. xxxvi, 330 pp. With 13 copper engraved plates, one of which is folding, several of which have fantastical elements reflecting the imperfect scientific knowledge of the time especially about far-off places still being explored. Plates depict strange plants and/or animals, as well as geological subjects. Some light offsetting to the plates. A minor chip in the folding plate lower margin. Old rebacking of the spine. Calf has lot of cracquelature, but is contemporary and desirable nonetheless.
