With time on our hands during the Coronavirus lockdown, we are reviewing the prices of some of our older stock and adjusting prices of books to ensure that they are the most attractive offering in the marketplace, as it is a reality of the antiquarian market for books that less expensive and mid-level material the trend has been inexorably downward, to the chagrin of booksellers and to the benefit of collectors.  Consequently, we have slashed prices anywhere between 20 percent and 60 percent of these books we have had listed for five years or more.  So we hope that anyone visiting the site might find something that might have become overpriced but now legitimately qualifies as a bargain.

[Advertising Broadside/Brochure] The Battle Cry of Peace
1 [Advertising Broadside/Brochure] The Battle Cry of Peace "A Call to Arms Against War" The Greatest War Drama Ever Filmed. The Triumph of Preparedness! . . .
Boston Printer: The Libbie Printing Co. 1915 Brochure Very Good
A scarce advertisement for a "photo-drama of war", released in 1915 and now mostly lost. The movie was for its day a huge spectacle, using as it did a cast of thousands, to advance its pro-war message. The plot of the epic was premised on the Central Powers exploited American Pacifists to keep the U.S. from arming itself and then attacking the militarily unprepared and weak U.S. In the movie all kinds of atrocities are then committed against Americans. The movie, directed by J. Stuart Blackton and Wilfrid North, starred Charles Richman, Norma Talmadge, Mary Maurice, and L. Rogers Lytton. 26.5 by 18.5 cm. 4 pp., but with the qualities of a broadside on the front cover or first page as well as the inner two pages in which a dozen scenes of the movie are set forth with still photos and captions. The back cover has quotes from famous Americans, past and present, along with an endorsement of the movie by Theodore Roosevelt, whose assistance was supposedly instrumental in the producer getting assistance from the War Department. Also listed on the last page are the special effects employed in the movie, such as the bombardment of new York, whole buildings toppling, Wall Street in flames, sea battles, and much, much more.

2 Villegas, Lucio A., editor Album de Cinelandia. Biografias y retratos autenticos
Hollywood, CA Mac Printing Company 1928 First Edition Wraps Very Good Plus
An oversized Hollywood facebook album from when they had faces, issued less than a year after the release of "The Jazz Singer", when silent movies was in its last gasp. Folio-sized, 14 by 10 inches, 35 by 26 cm. 201 pp. Photos of leading Hollywood stars on rectos, with biographical information on the facing page. Among the hundred stars are the giants, many whose names are still big, generally because they survived the transition to sound unharmed -- the obvious stars such as Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Gary Cooper, Clara Bow, Lillian Gish, Mary Pickford, Chaplin, Fairbanks, Marion Davies, Buster Keaton, Menjou, Janet Gaynor, etc. etc., as well as those whose names have become more obscure, or whose reputation for whatever reason is entirely centered in the silent era, such as Billie Dove, Renee Adoree, Doris Costello, Pola Negri, Langdon, Billy Haines, the Talmadge sisters, Esther Ralston, etc. etc. Al Jolson is among the stars, his turn in film the previous year marking the beginning of the end of the era captured by this album. The text is in Spanish, but it should be noted that it is far more than a simple translation of the contemporaneous actors photographic yearbook, with the biographical information occasionally getting into detail that was decidedly not issued by publicity central, albeit never venturing into the salacious and scandalous. The Orientalist color lithograph on the front cover of a beautiful woman with a vacant look while holding a bejeweled mirror and a mask of a theatrical muse is particularly attractive. The wraps have minor closed tears around the fringe, as inevitable in this instance if the book were ever shelved standing, and there is a slightly longer closed tear along upper front joint. Internally the book is clean and tight, and thus this is an exemplary copy really.
