8vo. 24 by 14.5 cm. 155 engraved plates of decidedly colorful characters -- freaks, buskers, street performers, cheats, rogues, con men, criminals, etc. The biographies are told in an arch, entertaining manner. Full red morocco binding, with gilt rolled decoration, raised bands, gilt floral devices in spine compartments. Condition: rubbing along the joints. Minor abrasion spots on leather. A few darkened streak lines on board of one volume. Occasional soiling within. A few pages with a light corner dampstain.

Rich brown morocco, with slightly modernist design in terms of gilt ruling, jagged edged rectangular shapes and pips forming design on boards and in compartments.
