With time on our hands during the Coronavirus lockdown, we are reviewing the prices of some of our older stock and adjusting prices of books to ensure that they are the most attractive offering in the marketplace, as it is a reality of the antiquarian market for books that less expensive and mid-level material the trend has been inexorably downward, to the chagrin of booksellers and to the benefit of collectors.  Consequently, we have slashed prices anywhere between 20 percent and 60 percent of these books we have had listed for five years or more.  So we hope that anyone visiting the site might find something that might have become overpriced but now legitimately qualifies as a bargain.

8 Clouston, R. S. English Furniture and Furniture Makers of the 18th Century. Illustrated
London Hurst and Blackett 1906 First Cloth Very Good
xii, 362, [2] pp. Useful source because chapters devoted not just to the likes of Chippendale, Hepplewhite, Sheraton and Robert Adam, but also to Robert Manwaring, Ince and Mayhew, Mattias Lock, Robert and Richard GIllow, and others, designers who also were influential with their pattern or design books as well as in the case most obviously of Gillows, actual manufacturing. Also written in an almost conversational style, notwithstanding what now might come across as a quaintness of phrasing, inviting to the non-specialist. Throughout photographic illustrations of furniture and patterns. This is a comparatively rare title, not to be confused with a somewhat similarly titled book by Kate Clouston. Some shelfwear to green cloth. Slight fraying of the cloth at the spine extremities. Tight, with clean age-toned pages. Bookplate of W.R. Grace on FEP.

17 Hill, Thomas E. Hill's Album of Biography and Art: Containing Portraits and Pen-Sketches of Many Persons Who Have Been and are Prominent as Religionists, Military Heroes, Inventors. . .
Chicago Hill Standard Book Company 1886 Hardcover Very Good
4to. 587 pp + 6 pp pub ad. 8 full page chromolithographic plates, each 11 by 8.5 inches. Principal title of this book is somewhat misleading because it is much more of a single volume encyclopedia or atlas with substantial pieces on home decoration, farm animals (chickens, horses, etc.). Treats animal cruelty, which would mark it as a real pioneer. This is a substantial specimen of Victoriana and Americana, and one can dip into time and again with enjoyment. Leather of binding has considerable rubbing, esp. in corner tabs. Slight looseness to FFEP. Otherwise, tight and clean copy.
