With time on our hands during the Coronavirus lockdown, we are reviewing the prices of some of our older stock and adjusting prices of books to ensure that they are the most attractive offering in the marketplace, as it is a reality of the antiquarian market for books that less expensive and mid-level material the trend has been inexorably downward, to the chagrin of booksellers and to the benefit of collectors.  Consequently, we have slashed prices anywhere between 20 percent and 60 percent of these books we have had listed for five years or more.  So we hope that anyone visiting the site might find something that might have become overpriced but now legitimately qualifies as a bargain.

1 C. Bird(?) Diary Album with Watercolors
Wood Boards, Morocco Spine Very Good
N.d., circa 1920. An unusual homemade diary, with thirty illustrated pages, most of which are watercolors, with a few ink or pencil drawings. The greatest number of these illustrations evoke the work of Mabel Lucie Attwell, but there are also a few botanical and architectural illustrations (of English cathedrals, Shakespeare's birthplace) and costume drawings of eighteenth century chidren and Japanese children, the latter inspired by "The Mikado". The album was intended originally as a diary, it would appear, and a day of the year marks each page, and the headings for the days are all done by hand, very neatly. Needless to say, most of the pages are blank. One can guess that the young artist did the drawings on the day marking the page they are on, but this is pure speculation. Nonetheless, the album is very attractive, with not just the lovely artwork within, but also, the two wood boards with their geometric relief work. On a front blank there is an inscription, "To C. Bird, with love from L. Latham." Again, a guess would be that the recipient did the artwork, while the giver may have created the diary format.
