With time on our hands during the Coronavirus lockdown, we are reviewing the prices of some of our older stock and adjusting prices of books to ensure that they are the most attractive offering in the marketplace, as it is a reality of the antiquarian market for books that less expensive and mid-level material the trend has been inexorably downward, to the chagrin of booksellers and to the benefit of collectors.  Consequently, we have slashed prices anywhere between 20 percent and 60 percent of these books we have had listed for five years or more.  So we hope that anyone visiting the site might find something that might have become overpriced but now legitimately qualifies as a bargain.

2 Tall Art Nouveau Postcard Album, currently without postcards
Decorated Cloth Very Good
N.d., circa 1900 to 1910. Color illustration on front cover of a Flemish or Norman village, framed by a blindstamped (and gilt impressed) image of a Jugendstil-style picture frame. Endpapers also of a high Art Nouveau pattern. About 40 leaves of card stock for the postcards. The slots into which the postcards are secured appear unused or very lightly used. There are no postcards in the album at present. A few slots have slight damage, but this doesn't necessarily suggest use. Age toning around the edges of the card leaves. Cocking to the binding. Soiling on the cloth binding, but overall, still a handsome Art Nouveau album.

3 Aleksei Aleksyeyevich, Lev Smoylovich, Vladimir Aleksyeyevich Byelkin, Aleksandr Nikolayevich, Ivan Bilibin, etc. Malaya Knishnaya Grafika Chudoshnikov "Mira Iskusstva" [Assorted Book Graphics International Style]
St. Petersburg Izdatelstvo "Kleo" 2000 Full Calf Fine
Russian miniature book full of Art Nouveau vignettes from an array of Russian artists, all executed at the turn of the twentieth century -- most are from the first decade of the 20th century. The imagery is full of enchantment, variety and imaginativeness. The publication honors an artistic past that Russians could at last imbibe freely with the fall of the Soviet Union, and it demonstrates how connected the Russians were at the time to the prevailing artistic winds sweeping Europe and America while somehow preserving a certain wonderful Russian otherness. Here one will find represented the celebrated Bilibin but also many names obscure in the West. WIth a gorgeous Art Nouveau cover. One doesn't have to know any Russian to appreciate, enjoy and use this exquisite book.

4 De Fonseca, Edoardo, Diretttore "Novissima" 1902. Albo Annuale D'Arti e Lettere: Anno II
Milano Enrico Bonetti 1902 First Edition Paper pastedowns on boards, cloth spine Very Good

Art Nouveau Watercolors of Decor and Other Subjects, Ragot
5 Ragot Art Nouveau Watercolors of Decor and Other Subjects
1909 Quarter Calf Very Good
Folio, 48 by 33 cm. 39 watercolors and chalk drawings mostly of furniture and decor items but also a smattering of decorative book bindings, architectural details, flowers, animals, landscapes, etc. Particularly nice are the studies of furniture, screens and stained glass windows. Ragot was a student at the Lycee de Laval at the time. The work is generally quite precise, and he satisfyingly captured the prevailing Art Nouveau aesthetic that was soon to recede. All the leaves are now loose from their binding. Many of them are stamped in the corner with the school name and information about when the work was done, how long it took to do, and for what class it was assigned. The folio is quarter calf and heavily worn. The artworks are mostly on heavy card paper and are generally clean.

Un Air Embaume Parfume le Monde L'Or de Rigaud. sa firme ses parfums, Richepin, Jean, author of introductory poem entitled "Fleurs"
6 Richepin, Jean, author of introductory poem entitled "Fleurs" Un Air Embaume Parfume le Monde L'Or de Rigaud. sa firme ses parfums
Wraps Very Good
Scarce, with no copies located on OCLC FirstServe. N.d., circa 1914, when the fragrance "Un Air Embaume" was first introduced. 8vo. 24 by 21 cm. Unpaginated, 12 leaves, plus tissue guards and wraps, with nine of those being color plates. Rigaud as a parfumier dates back to 1852. At the turn of the century it created and marketed fragrances associated with celebrities of the day -- one fragrance was named after the opera star "Mary Garden" -- and the company might well have been a pioneer in such tie-ins. The company also consciously pursued the Anglo market, and capitalized on the Gallic vogue at the time for things English, by naming a number of its products in English. The company remains in business today, but its emphasis it now on home or ambient fragrances. In this glossy marketing brochure, intended as much to build the exotic, luxurious mystique of the companies fragrances as to peddle its specific products, the color plates capture perfectly the sinewy, rich aesthetic of the day, with equal amounts of Art Nouveau elegance; the overripe, almost lurid colors and styles of the Jugendstil, or the Teutonic version of Art Nouveau; and the softer, Rococo frivolity and flirty lightness epitomized by a Fragonard or Boucher. The Richepin poem that serves as a preface evokes the hedonistic, possibly decadent, sensuality that is the mood, or mix of moods, of the illustrations that follow. And so the names of perfumes are Prince Igor, Marthe Chenal (a French opera singer, who like Mary Garden, was particularly associated with Jules Massenet), Pres de Vous, Muses des Bois, l'heure charmante, lilas de Rigaud, Oeillet d'Andalousie, Mary Garden, and des Roses. The cream cover has foxing. Within the brochure is clean.
