With 22 leaves of card stock, 20 of which contain an illustration which features a flap which when lifted reveal a word. A series of illustrations, designed and executed more than a century prior to 1911 by Catharine Shephard of Virginia and presented to her favorite neice, we are told on the title page. This is a reproduction of the "treasured heirloom" and a charming specimen of fin-de-siecle nostalgia for the Early Republic, the Georgian and Regency Eras. Bound together with a ribbon. Some light soilage on the covers, which are paper pasted onto boards. The ribbon is newer. With the box that the book came in, and this box is considerably soiled but as a box retains its integrity. Measures 14 by 13 cm, or 5.5 by 5.25 inches.
