8vo, 18 by 12.5 cm. 268 pp. With 33 hand-colored plates, one folding, a few, double paged (thus the 37 number in the title), and five vignette woodcuts in the text by Cruikshank, who ably captures the fanciful outlandishness of the ever popular tall tale narrative, which owes not a little to "Orlando Furioso". Red straight grained morocco on boards, spine is of calf. Original decorated cloth binding bound in. Apparently more color plates in this particular edition than others by Tegg, including copies issued the same year. Condition: one inch loss on lower front joint/hinge. Rubbing along joints. Spine darkened and dried somewhat. Text leaves heavily age toned. Some marginal dampstaining in plate margins.
